E. John Gorman • Bair Hilty, P.C.
E. John Gorman brings a rare blend of talents to Bair Hilty, P.C.,
coupling the complementary skills of a trial lawyer with those of an
appellate practitioner. This special prowess helped him to achieve the
distinction of being Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas
Board of Legal Specialization. In addition, Martindale-Hubbell endorses
him with an AV rating – its most prestigious ranking for attorneys.
Whatever the form of advocacy, John embraces the challenge with a can-do
enthusiasm. He cut his teeth litigating in insurance, business, banking,
consumer, and oil and gas cases, and he in turn applies that unique
knowledge and keen perspective to appeals. At the trial court level,
John draws upon his appellate expertise to frame the core issues and lay
the groundwork for appeal. He uses these exceptional abilities to his
client’s advantage when it counts the most. Such cradle-to-grave
experience in lawsuits allows him to offer case-sensitive insights and
strategic options few attorneys can.
John graduated with honors as a College Scholar from the University of
Texas at Austin in 1981, earning his B.A. degree in history. In 1984, he
received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center, where he
served as the Chief Note and Comment Editor on the Houston Law Review.
Before joining Bair Hilty, P.C., John worked for a prestigious Houston
law firm and then practiced civil appellate law on his own.
John has handled over 100 appeals and mandamus actions in state and
federal appellate courts involving legal issues that run the gamut.
Besides researching and writing each appellate brief himself, John has
argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit
and half of the 14 intermediate appellate courts in Texas. He strives to
succeed on appeal where others often fail. To vindicate the client’s
position in hard-fought litigation affords him the utmost satisfaction.
A sixth-generation Texan, John takes great pride in his home state,
particularly when it comes to UT football. Saltwater fishing along the
Texas Gulf Coast occupies his leisure time. He and his wife Brenda enjoy
cooking, spoiling their 3 grandsons, and collecting antique American
furniture representative of the Federal and Chippendale periods, circa
1770-1820.
